Tej Vora

Head of M&A

Tej is the Head of M&A at Union Software Group.

Prior to joining USG, Tej was a Vice President at Resolve Growth Partners, a growth equity firm focused on investing in B2B SaaS businesses. At Resolve, he sourced and executed multiple investments, while partnering closely with management teams on strategy, M&A, and growth initiatives.

Earlier in his career, Tej worked at PSG, a growth equity firm focused on software businesses, and at Piper Sandler, where he advised software companies on M&A and financing transactions. He holds a BS in Business Administration, summa cum laude, from Northeastern University.

Tej lives in New York City and enjoys discovering new restaurants, traveling, and cheering on his favorite sports teams.

Ahnaf Rahman

Analyst, M&A

Ahnaf is an Analyst at Union Software Group.

Prior to joining USG, Ahnaf was a Management Consultant at Kearney and KPMG, where he advised private equity firms and their portfolio companies on growth strategy and large-scale transformation initiatives.

Ahnaf holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Toronto, where he graduated as valedictorian.

He lives in Toronto and enjoys exploring the city’s restaurant scene and biking along the Harbourfront – usually ending with a detour for dessert.

Kyle Zhao

Co-Founder

Kyle is a Co-Founder of Union Software Group.

He is also currently the SVP of Finance, Product, and Operations at AutoLeap. Kyle has played a pivotal role in growing AutoLeap into an industry leader by building multiple departments and has been a key part in company’s various investment rounds totaling more than $50 million.

Kyle was previously the Director of Finance and Operations at HiMama and served as Director of Customer Success at FieldEdge prior to that where he built the team from 0 to 25 employees. Earlier in his career, Kyle was an investment banker at BMO Capital Markets and a Private Equity Associate with Highland Creek Partners.

Kyle holds an HBA from Ivey Business School.

Kyle loves to travel and practice amateur photography with his wife, and he always makes sure to add local bouldering gyms to the itinerary.

Umar Mir

Co-Founder

Umar is a Co-Founder of Union Software Group. He also serves as the CEO of BusPlanner, a USG portfolio company and North America’s leading student transportation platform.

Before founding USG, Umar was Chief of Staff at AutoLeap, where he helped scale the company from 40 to 200 employees and supported its fundraising of more than $50 million. Earlier in his career, he was a Private Equity investment professional at Onex Partners and an M&A investment banker at RBC Capital Markets.

He starts every morning with a glass of fresh orange juice and, on weekends, relives his glory days of playing basketball – which usually just ends with back pain.

Umar holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Toronto.

Steve Lau

Co-Founder

Steve is a Co-Founder of Union Software Group. He also serves as the Co-CEO of AutoLeap, a leading provider of auto repair software.

Prior to AutoLeap, Steve served as Co-CEO of FieldEdge and helped to scale the company from 20 to 200 employees. Earlier in his career, Steve spent several years with CPPIB and worked in investment banking at TD Securities prior to that. In 2018, Steve received an EY Entrepreneur of the Year award and in 2019, he was recognized as one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40.

Steve is also a Lecturer at the University of Toronto and holds an MBA from Wharton Business School.

Steve has two boys (seven and five) that often drop in on his conference calls, and he enjoys playing squash with Rameez enough to let him win.

Rameez Ansari

Co-Founder

Rameez is a Co-Founder of Union Software Group. He is an experienced CEO and investor having led various companies in North America and Asia. He is also currently the Co-CEO of AutoLeap, a vertically focused B2B SaaS start-up within the auto repair space.

Rameez was formerly the Co-CEO of FieldEdge, which he helped grow more than 5x in 3 years. Earlier in his career, Rameez worked as a management consultant at BCG and in 2018, Rameez received an EY Entrepreneur of the Year award. He has also been actively involved in his family’s power generator business, Synergy Corp., as an advisor and director over the past two decades.

Rameez is a Lecturer at the University of Toronto and holds an MBA from Stanford GSB.

Rameez has a lovely daughter (seven) and an energetic son (two) who both undisputedly run the household. Rameez is also quite proud of his winning squash record against Steve (976 to 956).
